Mask Dance Festival

 

Mask Dances are sacred to the Bhutanese people and is also the major tourist attraction festival in Bhutan. It is customary for the Bhutanese people to attend the festival dressed in their best National attire.

Families bring packed lunch to the festival as the mask dances goes on for the entire day with short breaks where Bhutanese cultural dances are performed.

(The following itinerary has been designed so that it coincides with the mask dance festival for Thimphu District alone. Other districts in Bhutan have similar mask dance festivals that fall on other dates.)

Tentative Itinerary

Festival Dates for Thimphu:

September 15th 2018 and September 19th to September 21st 2018


Day 01:
Arrival at the Paro International Airport.
Transfer to Thimphu.
Sightseeing in Thimphu:
Memorial Chorten, Buddha Point(Kuenselphodrang), Takin Reserve, Changgangkha Lhakhang (Temple),
Night halt at a hotel in Thimphu.
Day 02: Thimphu
Witness the Mask Dance Festival at Tashi chhoe Dzong(Fortress).
Visit the Thimphu town that is teeming with entertainment during the festival.
Night halt at a hotel in Thimphu.
Day 03: Drive to Punakha
En route sightseeing:
Dochula Mountain pass, Druk Wangyal Lhakhang,(Temple), Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple), Punakha Dzong(Fortress)
Night halt at a hotel in Punakha
Day 04: Punakha to Paro
Hike to the temple Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal
Drive to Paro.
Night halt at a hotel in Paro.
Day 05: Paro
Sightseeing in Paro:
Rinpung Dzong, National Museum of Bhutan, Dungtse Lhakhang, Kichu Lhakhang
Day 06: Paro
Hike to the Tiger’s Nest Temple.
Night halt at a hotel in Paro.
Day 07: Depart from the Paro International Airport.

Total cost of the tour (6N 7D)
For a tour group of 1PAX USD1480
For a tour group of 2PAX USD1420 per person
For a tour group of 3PAX and above USD1240 per person
The tour package is inclusive of the following:
1. Tourism Royalty of USD65 per night per person
2. Visa fee of USD40
3. Hotel accommodation in 3 Star hotels, twin sharing basis ( 4 and 5 star requires additional premium)
4. All meals in 3 Star hotels (B/Fast, Lunch, Dinner)
5. Vehicle for transportation for the entire duration of stay with a designated driver
6. A Licensed English speaking tour guide for the entire duration of stay (Language guide are also available upon additional premium)
7. All entry fees into tourist attraction sites
8. Bottled water for drinking
